Lesson: Nebensätze mit dass und weil — subordinate clauses paired

tags: #german #lessons #a2 #city_life #grammar #dass #weil #nebensatz
summary: Grammatik — the paired consolidation of the two workhorse A2 Nebensatz types under one roof. Recaps dass-Nebensätze (from 1072X — verb-final, comma before, used after verbs of Wahrnehmen / Denken / Fühlen like glauben, denken, finden, annehmen, überzeugt sein von, hoffen, sich wünschen) and weil-Nebensätze (from A1 travel — verb-final, causal "because"). The lesson's critical new rule: when the weil-Satz stands BEFORE the Hauptsatz, the whole Nebensatz occupies the Vorfeld — so under the V2 rule, the Hauptsatz verb must sit directly after the comma (Position 1 in the Zusammenfassung, i.e., Position 2 of the whole sentence). Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte, übe ich (verb übe immediately after the comma) — NOT Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte, ich übe. Drilled on both directions: Hauptsatz-first → Nebensatz-second transformations AND Nebensatz-first → Hauptsatz-second transformations. Also introduces the dass-Auslöser verb inventory (glauben, denken, annehmen, überzeugt sein von, hoffen, sich wünschen, finden, meinen) and the dass vs. weil function split (belief vs. reason). So sagt man das! phrase Wetten, dass …? (Bet that …?) — a highly productive discourse marker for expressing near-certainty about a future event. Redewendung ohne Punkt und Komma reden (to talk non-stop, lit. "without period and comma") — meta-poetic given the lesson's focus on the comma-and-word-order rules of Nebensätze.

Lernziele

  1. Ich kann Nebensätze mit dass und weil sicher bilden und anwenden.

(I can form and use subordinate clauses with dass and weil confidently.)

  1. Ich kann meine Meinung äußern und begründen.

(I can express and justify my opinion.)

The lesson's anchor — both Nebensätze in two sentences

Page 3 opens with the whole lesson's grammar packed into two short sentences:

Weil ich müde bin, gehe ich früh ins Bett. Ich hoffe, dass ich gut schlafen kann.

(Because I'm tired, I'm going to bed early. I hope that I can sleep well.)

Read this as a structural map:

PositionSliceWhat the lesson is naming
Sentence 1, first halfWeil ich müde bin,**weil-Nebensatz** — fronted (before the Hauptsatz), verb-final, followed by comma
Sentence 1, second halfgehe ich früh ins Bett.Hauptsatz — verb gehe sits directly after the comma (this is the lesson's critical new rule)
Sentence 2, first halfIch hoffe,Hauptsatz with the dass-Auslöser verb hoffen
Sentence 2, second halfdass ich gut schlafen kann.**dass-Nebensatz* — introduced by dass, comma before, verb (modal kann*) at the end
The two-Nebensatz-types-in-one-lesson pedagogical move: A1 introduced weil alone; 1072X introduced dass alone. This lesson teaches them side-by-side, and adds the fronted-Nebensatz twist that neither previous lesson covered systematically.

Part 1 — Nebensätze mit dass (recap from 1072X)

The rule (page 4)

Two speech bubbles from Darryl and Alice introduce the pattern:

Darryl: Ich glaube, dass es heute regnet.
(I believe that it's raining today.)
Alice: Ich denke, dass es heute sogar gewittern wird.
(I think that it'll even thunder today.)

The rule slide:

In Nebensätzen mit dass steht das Verb am Satzende.
Dass-Sätze stehen nach Ausdrücken des Wahrnehmens, des Denkens, oder Fühlens, z. B. glauben, denken, annehmen, überzeugt sein von etc.

(In subordinate clauses with dass, the verb stands at the end of the sentence. Dass-clauses come after expressions of perceiving, thinking, or feeling — e.g., to believe, to think, to assume, to be convinced of.)

(Lösung page 24: the blanks are glauben, denken.)

The full dass-Auslöser inventory (verbs that trigger dass-clauses)

WortTypEnglishBeispielsatz

Three semantic buckets (from the rule slide):
- Wahrnehmen (perceiving) — hören, sehen, fühlen
- Denken (thinking) — glauben, denken, meinen, annehmen, wissen, überzeugt sein von
- Fühlen (feeling / attitude) — hoffen, sich wünschen, fürchten, sich freuen (dass), Angst haben (dass)

Page 5 — Meine Gedanken (opinion-writing task)

Free-writing prompt: pick a topic, write a short text expressing Meinung, Bedenken und Wünsche using three frames:

FrameEnglish
Ich finde, dass …I find / think that …
Ich glaube, dass …I believe that …
Ich wünsche mir, dass …I wish that …
die Bedenken (Pl., no Sg. use) = concerns, misgivings.
die Wünsche (Sg. der Wunsch, ¨e) = wishes.
bezüglich + Gen. = regarding, concerning (formal preposition; A2 preview of Genitiv prepositions).

Sample response:

Ich finde, dass Sprachenlernen sehr wichtig ist. Ich glaube, dass man ein Leben lang lernen sollte. Ich wünsche mir, dass ich bald fließend Deutsch sprechen kann.
(I think that language learning is very important. I believe that one should learn all one's life. I wish I could speak German fluently soon.)

So sagt man das! — Wetten, dass …?

A: Morgen machen wir ein Picknick im Park!
B: Wetten, dass es regnet?

Rule box: Wetten, dass bedeutet, dass man ☐ sehr sicher ☐ nicht sicher ist, dass etwas passieren wird.

(Lösung page 24: sehr sicher)

Meaning & pragmatics

Wetten, dass …? (literally "Bet that …?") is an idiomatic near-certain prediction marker. When you say it, you're 99% sure the outcome will happen — you'd bet money on it. In the picnic dialogue, B is essentially saying "I'm sure it'll rain (so your picnic won't work)."

English mappings

SituationGermanEnglish
Near-certain predictionWetten, dass es regnet?Bet you it'll rain. / I'll bet it rains.
Confident hypothesisWetten, dass er wieder zu spät kommt?I'll bet he's late again.
Rhetorical statementWetten, dass niemand kommt?Bet nobody shows up.

Grammar structure

  • Wetten? alone (without dass) = "Wanna bet?" — a bold challenge.
  • Wetten, dass …? = "Bet that …?" — a confident prediction, using a dass-Nebensatz.
  • The verb inside the dass-clause is verb-final as always: …, dass es regnet.

Cultural note

Germany had a hugely popular TV show called "Wetten, dass..?" (1981–2014, revived 2021) — a Saturday-night variety show where guests would make outlandish bets ("I bet I can identify these people by their sneezes") and stars would perform. The phrase carries a slight retro warmth for German audiences.

Sister phrases (near-certainty markers)

PhraseEnglish
Wetten, dass …?I'll bet that …?
Ich bin mir sicher, dass …I'm sure that …
Bestimmt …Certainly …
Bestimmt wird es regnen. It'll certainly rain.
Da bin ich mir zu 100 % sicher.I'm 100 % sure of that.
Das wette ich mit dir!I'll bet you on that!

Part 2 — Nebensätze mit weil (the core new grammar)

The rule (page 7)

Two more speech bubbles introduce weil + the fronted-Nebensatz twist:

Darryl: Ich lade dich zum Essen ein, weil du heute Geburtstag hast.
(I'm inviting you out to eat because it's your birthday.)
Alice: Weil das viel zu teuer ist, können wir auch einfach einen Film ansehen.
(Because that's much too expensive, we can also just watch a film.)

The rule slide (with blanks filled in from Lösungen page 24):

Auch weil leitet einen Nebensatz ein.
Im Nebensatz mit weil steht das Verb am Satzende.
Wenn der weil-Satz vor dem Hauptsatz steht, dann steht das Verb im Hauptsatz direkt nach dem Komma.

(Also, weil introduces a subordinate clause. In the weil-clause, the verb stands at the end of the sentence. When the weil-clause comes before the main clause, the verb in the main clause stands directly after the comma.)

The three word-order rules for weil-Sätze

RuleStatementExample
1. weil = Subjunktionweil is a subordinating conjunction; introduces a Nebensatz.…, weil du Geburtstag hast.
2. Verb at endThe conjugated verb in the weil-Satz always goes to the very last position.…, weil du heute Geburtstag hast.
3. Fronted-Nebensatz ruleIf the weil-Satz precedes the Hauptsatz, the Hauptsatz verb comes directly after the comma (V2 rule preserved — the whole Nebensatz occupies the Vorfeld).Weil das viel zu teuer ist, können wir einen Film ansehen.

Why the fronted rule works — the V2 principle

German's absolute grammatical law: the conjugated verb of the Hauptsatz sits at Position 2 of the sentence. Normally the subject or a time/place adverb sits at Position 1 (the Vorfeld). But a whole Nebensatz can occupy Position 1 too — and when it does, the Hauptsatz verb is pushed to the very next slot, i.e., directly after the comma.

Position 1 (Vorfeld) | Position 2 (Verb) | rest
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Ich | übe | , weil ich Klavier spielen möchte.
Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte | übe | ich.
────────────────────────────────────┴───────────────────┴────
↑ the whole Nebensatz ↑ verb still V2
counts as ONE unit after the comma

Both sentences are equally correct German. The information-structure difference is subtle:

  • Hauptsatz first (Ich übe, weil …) — neutral order; foregrounds the action.
  • Nebensatz first (Weil …, übe ich) — foregrounds the reason; used when the cause is more informationally prominent.

English contrast — the English-speaker trap

English has the same fronted-clause pattern without the V2 verb-move:

  • "Because I want to play piano, I practice." ← verb practice sits after the subject I.

German requires the verb to jump in front of the subject after the fronted Nebensatz:

  • "Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte, übe ich." ← verb übe sits before the subject ich.

Writing "Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte, ich übe" (English word order) is one of the most common A2 errors for English speakers. Drill it: after a fronted Nebensatz + comma, the very next word must be the conjugated verb.

Page 8 — Sätze umformulieren: Beginne mit dem Hauptsatz

Take fronted-Nebensatz sentences and rewrite them with the Hauptsatz first.

#Given (Nebensatz first)Transformed (Hauptsatz first)English
1Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte, übe ich.Ich übe, weil ich Klavier spielen möchte. (given)I practice because I want to play piano.
2Weil er Urlaub machen will, spart er.Er spart, weil er Urlaub machen will.He saves because he wants to go on vacation.
3Weil das Museum neu ist, besuchen wir es.Wir besuchen das Museum, weil es neu ist. We're visiting the museum because it's new.
4Weil der Laden zu ist, geht sie nach Hause.Sie geht nach Hause, weil der Laden zu ist. She's going home because the shop is closed.
5Weil ihr gern tanzt, gehen wir in die Disco.Wir gehen in die Disco, weil ihr gern tanzt. We're going to the club because you (pl.) like to dance.

(Lösungen page 24: as above)

Sub-vocab: sparen (to save money), der Urlaub (vacation), zu sein (to be closed — colloquial for geschlossen), die Disco, -s (nightclub, disco), tanzen (to dance).

Page 9 — Sätze umformulieren: Beginne mit dem Nebensatz

Reverse drill — take Hauptsatz-first sentences and rewrite them with the Nebensatz first (activating the V2-after-comma rule).

#Given (Hauptsatz first)Transformed (Nebensatz first)English
1Ich arbeite, weil ich Geld verdienen muss.Weil ich Geld verdienen muss, arbeite ich. (given)Because I have to earn money, I work.
2Er weint, weil er traurig ist.Weil er traurig ist, weint er.Because he's sad, he cries.
3Sie weiß viel, weil sie viel liest.Weil sie viel liest, weiß sie viel.Because she reads a lot, she knows a lot.
4Sie gehen nach Hause, weil es schon spät ist.Weil es schon spät ist, gehen sie nach Hause.Because it's already late, they're going home.
5Ihr lernt, weil ihr gerne fließend Deutsch sprechen wollt.Weil ihr gerne fließend Deutsch sprechen wollt, lernt ihr.Because you (pl.) want to speak German fluently, you study.

(Lösungen page 24: as above)

Every transformed sentence in the right column drills the same critical move: verb (arbeite, weint, weiß, gehen, lernt) sits immediately after the comma, subject follows.
Sub-vocab: Geld verdienen (to earn money), weinen (to cry), traurig (sad), fließend (fluently), spät (late).

Frame given: Meiner Meinung nach ist das richtig/falsch, weil …

Sample responses:

Statement 1: Meiner Meinung nach ist das falsch, weil man in der Schule wichtige Sachen lernt. Ich denke, dass Bildung sehr wichtig ist.
(In my opinion that's wrong because you learn important things at school. I think that education is very important.)
Statement 3: Meiner Meinung nach ist das nicht immer richtig, weil das Leben auf dem Dorf ruhiger ist. Aber ich finde, dass die Stadt mehr Möglichkeiten bietet.
(In my opinion that's not always right because life in the village is quieter. But I think the city offers more possibilities.)

Was tust du, was tust du nicht? Begründe deine Antworten!

Four Warum-questions each with (nicht) option — every answer must be a weil-clause:

QuestionSample answer
Warum lebst du (nicht) in einer Stadt?Ich lebe in einer Stadt, weil es viele Möglichkeiten gibt.
Warum machst du (nicht) gern Urlaub?Ich mache gern Urlaub, weil ich neue Länder sehen möchte.
Warum arbeitest du (nicht)?Ich arbeite, weil ich Geld verdienen muss.
Warum liest du (nicht)?Ich lese, weil ich viel lernen möchte.
Warum? = "Why?" — the question word that weil-clauses answer. Sister question words: Wieso? (colloquial "why") / Weshalb? (formal "why") / Aus welchem Grund? (for what reason). All answered by weil.

Choose the correct subordinator for each sentence:

#SentenceChoiceEnglish
1Hans und Hanni gehen nach Hause, _____ sie müde sind.weilHans and Hanni are going home because they're tired.
2Franzi isst ein Brot, _____ sie Hunger hat.weilFranzi is eating bread because she's hungry.
3Bene denkt, _____ er nicht sportlich genug ist.dassBene thinks that he isn't athletic enough.
4Ihr findet, _____ ihr zu viel arbeitet.dassYou (pl.) find that you work too much.
5Du kündigst, _____ die Arbeit keinen Spaß macht.weilYou quit because the work isn't fun.

(Lösungen page 24: dass: 3, 4; weil: 1, 2, 5)

The function split — how to choose

dassweil
after opinion / perception / feeling verbs (glauben, denken, finden, meinen, wissen, hoffen, sich wünschen, überzeugt sein)after any Hauptsatz to give the reason for that Hauptsatz
introduces the content of the belief/feelingintroduces the cause
answers Was denkst du? / Was glaubst du?answers Warum? / Wieso?

If the Hauptsatz has a thinking/feeling verb → follow with dass. If the Hauptsatz describes an action or state that has a cause → follow with weil.

Trap: the same action nach Hause gehen can be followed by both — …, weil sie müde sind (giving the reason for going home). But denken/finden is almost always followed by dass (unless it's a colloquial dropped-dass V2 clause).

Page 14 — Zuordnen (sort openers by which subordinator they take)

Eight sentence-openers to sort into two columns:

weil columndass column
Ich sollte mehr lernen, weil …Ich wünsche mir, dass …
Ich muss schneller sein, weil …Ich denke, dass …
Ich habe Angst vor Hunden, weil …Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass …
Ich sollte mich nicht verspäten, weil …Ich finde, dass …

(Lösungen page 24: as above)

Why the split works

The weil column has openers that describe an action/state/obligation — sollte mehr lernen (should learn more), muss schneller sein (must be faster), habe Angst vor Hunden (am afraid of dogs), sollte mich nicht verspäten (shouldn't be late). Each can naturally take a because-reason.

The dass column has openers that describe an opinion/wish/thought — wünsche mir (wish), denke (think), bin überzeugt (am convinced), finde (find/think). Each opens the door for a content-clause.

Ich habe Angst vor + Dat. (I'm afraid of …) — callback from 1021V fixed-prep adjective phrase.

Sample completions:

OpenerCompletion
Ich sollte mehr lernen,…weil die Prüfung nächste Woche ist. (…because the exam is next week.)
Ich muss schneller sein,…weil der Zug in fünf Minuten abfährt. (…because the train leaves in 5 min.)
Ich habe Angst vor Hunden,…weil ich als Kind gebissen wurde. (…because I was bitten as a child.)
Ich sollte mich nicht verspäten,…weil mein Chef streng ist. (…because my boss is strict.)
Ich wünsche mir,…dass es morgen sonnig wird. (…that it will be sunny tomorrow.)
Ich denke,…dass wir gehen sollten. (…that we should leave.)
Ich bin davon überzeugt,…dass er die richtige Entscheidung getroffen hat. (…that he made the right decision.)

Speaking tasks — pages 15–17

Page 15 — Meinung äußern (Sekretär bewerbung)

Dein Freund oder deine Freundin bewirbt sich um eine Stelle als Sekretär oder Sekretärin. Ist das eine gute Idee?
(Your friend is applying for a position as secretary. Is that a good idea?)

Speaking task — express opinion using dass + reason using weil:

Ich denke, dass das eine gute Idee ist, weil er organisiert und pünktlich ist. Ich glaube, dass er im Büro gut arbeiten wird, weil er auch gut mit Menschen umgeht.
(I think that's a good idea because he's organized and punctual. I think he'll work well in the office because he also gets along well with people.)

Sub-vocab:

  • sich bewerben um + Akk. — to apply for (callback from 1041V)
  • die Stelle, -n — position, job (callback)
  • der Sekretär / die Sekretärin — secretary (callback)

Page 16 — Meinung äußern (why is she happy?)

Photo of a joyful woman at her desk. Speculate why she's so happy using dass + weil stacked together:

Ich denke, dass sie so glücklich ist, weil sie eine gute Nachricht bekommen hat.
(I think that she's so happy because she got good news.)
Ich weiß nicht. Vielleicht ist sie so glücklich, weil …
Ah stimmt! Oder sie ist glücklich, weil …
The stacked structure: Ich denke, dass sie glücklich ist, weil sie eine gute Nachricht bekommen hat. — one dass-clause introducing the opinion + one weil-clause giving the reason inside the opinion. This nested pattern is the lesson's most sophisticated production target.

Sub-vocab:

  • die Nachricht, -en — news, message
  • eine gute Nachricht bekommen — to get good news
  • bekommen (bekam, bekommen) — to receive
  • vielleicht — maybe

Page 17 — Vermutungen (guessing game with feeling adjectives)

Notice items 2 and 5 both start with Weil …, and the Hauptsatz on the right (mache ich, gehe ich) has the verb immediately after the comma — the fronted-Nebensatz rule active.

Sub-vocab:

  • fit bleiben — to stay fit
  • frei haben — to have off (from work)
  • der Ausflug, ¨e — outing, excursion
  • das Sprachenlernen (nominalized inf.) — language learning

3Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass ______, weil ______Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass Freizeit wichtig ist, weil man auch Erholung braucht.I'm convinced that free time is important because you also need recreation.
The nested structure — a dass-clause + a weil-clause both inside one sentence — is the lesson's most sophisticated production shape. Both Nebensätze have verb-final word order.

Redewendung — ohne Punkt und Komma reden

ohne Punkt und Komma reden
Bedeutung: schnell sprechen
(Meaning: to speak fast, to speak non-stop.)
Beispiel: Die Professorin redet ohne Punkt und Komma. Die Studierenden haben Probleme, alles zu notieren.
(The professor talks non-stop. The students have trouble noting down everything.)

Literal → figurative

Literally "to talk without period and comma." The metaphor: when you write with no punctuation, sentences run into each other without pause. Someone who ohne Punkt und Komma redet is talking so fast and continuously that they never pause for breath.

Why it fits this lesson

Meta-perfect for a grammar lesson on Nebensätze: the whole lesson has been about the *comma before weil / dass (Pflicht — mandatory) and the verb-position rules*. The Redewendung about talking WITHOUT commas ties back to the lesson's obsession with WHERE commas go.

Grammar of the idiom

  • ohne + Akk. — always-Akk. preposition (callback from 1023G).
  • der Punkt = period, dot; das Komma, -s / Kommata = comma.
  • reden (weak) = to talk (slightly more casual than sprechen).

Sister phrases (nonstop speech):

PhraseEnglish
ohne Punkt und Komma redento talk non-stop
wie ein Wasserfall redento talk like a waterfall
jemandem die Ohren abkauento talk someone's ear off (lit. "to chew off someone's ears")
einen Redeschwall habento have a torrent of speech
das Wort nicht rauslassento not let a word slip in (i.e., others can't speak)

Sub-vocab from the example sentence:

  • die Professorin, -nen — (female) professor
  • der Studierende, -n / die Studierende, -n — student (gender-neutral, from participle studierend)
  • notieren — to note down
  • alles zu notieren — to note down everything (zu + Inf. after adjective + object)

Zusammenfassung — the lesson on one card (page 25)

Meinung äußern (opinion-frame recap)

  • Ich glaube, dass … — I believe that …
  • Ich denke, dass … — I think that …
  • Ich finde, dass … — I find/think that …
  • Ich wünsche mir, dass … — I wish that …
  • Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass … — I'm convinced that …
  • Meiner Meinung nach … — In my opinion …

Lexical distinctions (A2 traps surfaced)

PairDistinction
dass vs. weildass = content clause (what someone thinks/feels/perceives). weil = cause clause (why something is the case). Ich denke, dass er kommt (content of thought) vs. Er kommt, weil er hungrig ist (reason for coming).
Fronted-Nebensatz + V2 ruleWhen a weil-Satz is before the Hauptsatz, the Nebensatz occupies the Vorfeld, so the Hauptsatz verb must sit directly after the comma (V2). Weil ich Klavier spielen möchte, übe ich — NOT Weil …, ich übe (English word order error).
dass-dropped vs. dass-explicitIn spoken German, dass can be dropped, turning the Nebensatz back into V2: Ich glaube, es regnet (V2, no dass) vs. Ich glaube, dass es regnet (V-final, with dass). Both correct.
weil-dropped: NEVERUnlike dass, **weil cannot be dropped*. Er kommt, weil hungrig is ungrammatical. In colloquial spoken German you'll sometimes hear weil + V2 (weil er ist hungrig*) — this is nonstandard and should not be produced at A2.
Comma before dass/weil: MANDATORYBoth German subordinators require a comma before them — orthographic rule (like all Subjunktionen).
glauben/denken/finden/meinenAll ~"think/believe" — 1072X distinctions. Interchangeable at A2 with slight nuance.
annehmen (assume) vs. mitnehmen (take along) vs. abnehmen (lose weight, take off)The nehmen-family with different prefixes — annehmen = to assume; also to accept.
überzeugt sein von + Dat. vs. überzeugt sein davon, dass …With noun object: von + Dat. (überzeugt von der Idee). With clause: davon anticipates the dass-clause (überzeugt davon, dass …). (callback from 1072X)
Sprachenlernen (nominalized) vs. Sprachen lernen (verb)das Sprachenlernen = language-learning (neuter noun, nominalized infinitive). Sprachen lernen = to learn languages (verb).
die Deutschkenntnisse (Pl.) vs. die Kenntnis, -seThe plural Kenntnisse is usual for "skills/knowledge in an area." Deutschkenntnisse, Englischkenntnisse, Computerkenntnisse.
sich verspäten vs. spät seinsich verspäten (reflexive verb) = to be late (as an action/behavior). spät sein = to be late (as a state) — Es ist schon spät.
die Verabredung (appointment) vs. das Date (romantic)Verabredung is a neutral appointment to meet (with friends, colleagues, etc.). Date (Anglicism) is specifically romantic.
die Schule schwänzen (colloq.) vs. die Schule versäumen (formal)schwänzen = colloquial "to skive" or "play truant." versäumen = formal "to miss / fail to attend."
ohne Punkt und Komma reden vs. sprechenreden = to talk (more casual, more about the act). sprechen = to speak (more general). Both possible in this idiom; reden is more common.
Wetten, dass …? (near-certain) vs. Ich glaube, dass … (uncertain)Wetten is the confident marker. Ich glaube is the humble/uncertain marker. Note the pragmatic difference: same grammar, opposite epistemic strength.
Warum? vs. Wieso? vs. Weshalb? vs. Aus welchem Grund? All = "why?" Warum is default. Wieso is casual. Weshalb is formal. Aus welchem Grund is very formal. All answered by weil.

Connections

  • Die Meinung sagen () — the direct predecessor for dass-Nebensätze; introduced the opinion-frame inventory, the dafür/dagegen pair, and the **davon anticipator for fixed-prep adjectives. This 1073G lesson consolidates** dass and adds weil systematically alongside.
  • Indirekte Fragesätze () — sister Nebensatz lesson with ob (yes/no) and W-word subordinators, same V-final rule. Together with dass, weil → the four core A2 Nebensatz types complete.
  • weil-Nebensätze (A1 travel) — the A1 introduction to weil the student first met; this 1073G lesson formalizes it with the fronted-clause V2 rule.
  • Gefühle und Emotionen () — the feeling-adjectives inventory (glücklich, zufrieden, müde, nervös, aufgeregt, traurig, enttäuscht, entspannt) used in the Vermutungen speaking task (page 17); Angst haben vor + Dat. used in the Zuordnen task (page 14).
  • Höflichkeit () — würde + Inf. Konj. II frame (Mit wem würdest du dich unterhalten?) and sollte + Inf. modal (Man sollte nicht …).
  • Akkusativ- und Dativ-Präpositionen () — ohne + Akk. for ohne Punkt und Komma; bei + Dat. for bei einer Verabredung.
  • Verben mit Präpositionalobjekten () — Angst haben vor + Dat., überzeugt sein von + Dat. — fixed-prep patterns reused.
  • Die Firma () — sich bewerben um + Akk., die Stelle, der Sekretär / die Sekretärin used on page 15.
  • Am Telefon () — telefonieren verb reused on page 23.
  • Die Arbeitswelt () — kündigen (to quit) used on page 13.
  • Das Leben in der Stadt () — same 107x cluster; Ampel, Bäckerei, Museum, Laden, Stadt vs. Dorf used across the speaking prompts.
  • Über die Wohnung reden () — the Wann?/Wie lange?/Ab wann? question-word family; Warum? is another member of the same family answered by a specific subordinator (weil).
  • Word Order — the V2 principle is the underlying grammar the fronted-Nebensatz rule preserves; the whole Nebensatz occupies the Vorfeld, so the verb sits at Position 2 = directly after the comma.
